We recently visited SF General Hospital to find some Hearts of San Francisco that benefit the hospital. We not only found more than one heart, we also discovered bronze hearts leading up to the new Zukerberg Trama Center. The hearts were created by New York based sculpture artist Tom Otterness and recently installed at the Potrero entrance.
The hospital that prides itself on being the Heart of San Francisco wished to promote this image and compliment the existing Hearts of San Francisco program. The SFAC along with staff from the hospital was responsible for selecting all the artists who would be commissioned to create art for the new building and grounds. They chose Tom Otterness who is known for his whimsical animals and figures that grace public parks and plazas across America to create one large sculpture and a series of small ones to set the tone for approaching the health facility. He created charming hearts that add levity to those individuals needing momentary distraction from serious matters at hand and joy to others basking in relief from good news.
