This is a follow up to the Golden Dragons of Oakland Chinatown article. 2016 was a busy year for the Dragon School, the organization behind the dragons.
They had some milestones as they ramped up their activity.
- They acquired non-profit status and are accepting donation to support the costs of the supplies for the dragons and murals. You can donate to the cause at Go Fund Me
- Some of the dragons are now in color.
- They connected with artists who painted large and small murals scattered in the nocks and crannies of Chinatown. They currently have 4 artists in residence in their program: Omael One, Lina Savage, Marcus Lo and Steven Anderson.
- They provided wallspace to the San Francisco Meeting of Styles in October that was set to happen in San Francisco. This resulted in art created by artists from France, Russia, Belgium, Bulgaria and other parts of the US.
You too can participate by walking around Chinatown enjoying the art and having lunch in one of the many restaurants. You can also help paint a mural. Age and experience is no barrier. They try to organize a collaborative mural every second Saturday of the month.
See some of the murals that were painted this year we have not yet shown. Some are still up and others have been replaced.
The most recent mural was just unveiled this week by Missymtoyz.
Visit the Dragon Sshool to learn more about the organization and how to participate as an artist or individual street art lover.
