We finally returned to check out the roof and were rewarded by his “Twist” graffiti character with sagging eyes and bemused expression painted on he elevator shaft.
Barry McGee grew up in San Francisco and was married to a fellow artist Margaret Kilgallen who tragically died of cancer the month she gave birth to their daughter. McGee is married to Clare Rojas, also an artist who painted the large mural of a woman on Market at Taylor. Read an interesting 2015 article about them in The New Yorker.
