On May 6th 111 Minna Gallery proudly presents two respective solo shows by Jason Mecier and Bedelgeuse.

Pop artist Jason Mecier delivers a continuation of his one of a kind and outrageous mosaic portraits with his latest body of work titled, “Celebrity Trash.” With current subjects such as, Pamela Anderson and Lindsay Lohan, he is well known to meticulously fabricate anybody from anything. From Kevin Bacon out of bacon, to Honey Boo Boo out of 25 lbs. of trash, you can be assured that what is seen, is not what it seems. One can only grasp the humorous irony behind the objects used to compose the subjects by getting up close and allowing your eyes to scan the many depths present in defining the portrait.

Due to the complexity and masterful compositional qualities of Bedelgeuse’s work, it is no coincidence why curator, Micah LeBrun, has planned to open these artists shows simultaneously. Bedelgeuse intelligently reinvents the medium of collage in a fashion similar to the undeniable connection of all things from and in the natural world.

Jason’s artwork has been featured everywhere from Entertainment Weekly to The New York Times, on TV shows like Glee, Rachael Ray and TMZ, as well as music videos by Pink and Pitbull. His portraits are hanging in Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museums, countless celebrity homes, and even in The Playboy Mansion!

LINDSAY LOHAN IN PROGRESS

Bedelgeuse is an anatomical collage artist. All of the source material used comes from old science and medical books that are in the public domain. He makes both physical cut paper and digital collages that form into a wild amalgamation of botanical, zoological, and anatomical imagery. These compositions produce synergetic visuals that represent humanity’s inherent relationship to nature. Bedelgeuse’s first show in San Francisco, “Internal – Eternal” is a visual representation of wellness, unconditional love, and personal growth.
