Coffee Mission is ideally situated on Osage Alley at 24th Street, steps away from the Bart Station. It has big windows with upstair seating and free wifi. They serve Verve Coffee and pastries made by local vendors. They are open until 10pm on weekdays. Check the hours for the week-end.
What makes Coffee Mission a bit more unique in the Mission is that it is at the head of one of several street art alleys that Mission Art 415 curates which makes it an idea place to meet prior or after a street art walk or tour. The exterior facing the alley is covered with art by artists whose work can be seen around the Mission District. Coffee Mission is an art gallery as well.
Recently Lisa Brew, who organized the Lilac Alley Mural Project (Mission Art 415), began curating the art that hangs in Coffee Mission and is for sale.
Several months ago she stopped into Coffee Mission to introduce herself to the new owner/management and inform them of their SF MOS 2016 event as well as manage the “tired” mural on the outside of the coffee shop. The existing mural is in great need of refreshing and she has been working with Mel and Dino to redo the mural respectfully. More recently Thomas the manager asked her if she had any artists who would like to showcase their art at the new coffee shop. She instantly thought of Nite Owl and Nate since they are professional and on point regarding respectable up and coming artists. Both Nite Owl and Nate are well received as aspiring fine artists and their artists genre and price points match the new clientele of Coffee Mission.
How can the art be purchased?
Nate has his prices listed on the story boards at Coffee Mission and Nite Owl has a set price for his original works of art at $1,500. All of the art showcased at Coffee Mission as well as the Rent A Center Showroom across the street that Lisa Brewer curates are originals which come with a letter of authenticity as well as they are all signed. She has business cards at Coffee Mission in the event a potential collector would like additional information or learn more about the artists.
Lisa Brewer has been brokering international fine art for the past 30 years and urban art for the past 15. Art is her passion. She loves exposing new art collectors to the amazing power of acquired art which becomes a generational heirloom being passed down from loved one to loved one. Art is the heartbeat of the home and office. Great art inspires and saves lives. She always tells potential art collector’s to pick and choose their art carefully because it not only influences them but the people who surround them. She can tell everything she needs to know about a person by looking at what they have hanging on their walls. MISSION ART GALLERY, LLC will launch the fine art website in a few weeks.
About Nathan Tan aka Nate1
Nathan Tan was born in England and moved to San Francisco at the age of 4. In 1987 at the age of 16, Nate started his career as a Graffiti Artist and Muralist. In 1990, he and a partner opened one of the first Hip Hop Airbrush shops in SF. A definite precursor to his graphic design career in the fashion industry.
Nate’s art work has been documented in many graffiti art magazines such as the Source, Can Control, One track Mind and San Francisco Murals. He was interviewed on the graffiti documentary Piece by Piece and in the book The History of American Graffiti as a pioneer of the West Coast Graffiti Art scene.
In 1996 Nate transferred his street aesthetic and urban art form from the walls to canvas. Nate has had numerous art shows and often features his art work with the same boutiques that sell New Skool. Nate’s artwork themes range from graffiti typography, cartoon spray cans and characters to portraits of urban transportation and landscapes. Nate’s goal is to show his graffiti and local roots in SF through the imagery of his work.
About Nite Owl
Nite Owl is a prolific Oakland-based artist who considers owls to be his medium of choice — whether they appear in his large, colorful murals, stickers on news boxes, or paintings on gallery walls. In their many iterations, his owl characters have become the vehicles for Nite Owl to push the boundaries of geometry and color.
Why Owls? Simply stated, Nite Owl wanted a way to emphasize his love of nature while living amidst the urbanity of the Bay Area. Owls have been prized by many cultures around the world for their wisdom, cunning and being guardians of the night time. As urban sprawl continues to take away natural habitat, Nite Owl feels that it is important to remind humanity of the other side of the equation.
