As the year rolls on, HoodLAB SF is proud to present it 3rd show featuring the works of Michael Page (http://michaelpageart.com/) and Jesse Hazelip (http://jessehazelip.com/). Although these two artists’ art maybe worlds apart, they do share a similar passion in their art. Their art holds a message, often focusing on world issues and destruction.
Michael Page lives and works as a full time artist in San Francisco. He is a self taught artist who’s work has been displayed the world over. His work has been published in, High Fructose Magazine Volume 12, DPI, and Empty Magazine to name a few. The Bristol Museum of Art in London has acquired one of his works for their “Art From The New World Exhibition” which took place in the Summer of 2010. His work can be found in private collections from all over the world. The work of Page is very surrealistic and at times has a taste of Dali. His use of color and shadows makes the viewer almost feel in a dream state.
Jesse Hazelip born in Cortez Co, now lives and works in Brooklyn New York. A graffiti artist who grew up in Colorado and later in Southern California, Jesse’s work shows signs of his time spent in the streets of southern California and its gang life. Jesse has
been quoted in saying, “My most formative years were in Southern California, and there were [Cholo-style] tattoos everywhere,” he explains. “I try not to use only those types of motifs, but they’re in my mind because I grew up with them. Seeing graffiti—and I’ve always been interested in gang graffiti—has informed my graffiti. It’s impossible for me not to be influenced by that.” Coming fresh from his latest solo show titled “Love Lock”
at Jonathan LeVine’s Gallery, where his artwork focused on the injustice within the American Prison System, most of Jesse’s work holds an underlying message.
