White Walls is pleased to present TROPIC, a solo show by SF-based Casey Gray. The opening reception will be Saturday, October 12, from 7-11 pm, and the exhibition is free and open to the public for viewing through November 2, 2013.
Featuring 20 new paintings in a dazzling array of neon, TROPIC reads as a non-linear narrative of a permanent vacation, where lobster and bikini’d derrieres are the norm. Thematically centered around coastal culture and fare, TROPIC is not necessarily focused on any one particular place, but more on an exploration of the feeling one gets while in a tropical location. Pineapple, palm trees, monkeys, iguanas, nautical flags, and flamingo lawn ornaments are all accounted for in a patchwork of tequila-sunrise memories and daydreams. With a practiced eye for composition, Casey creates still lifes that vibrate with a sun-washed psychedelic edge.
