Rocha Art is pleased to host the first West Coast solo show in 4 years by Carly Ivan Garcia. Last year his solo show in Chelsea, NYC, was very successful and prompted him to start an entirely new body of work for 2015. Each piece offers a visually thematic play in the swift victory of conquering self identity. One can’t help but be drawn to the raw vibrancy of his palettes, and unfiltered emotion on display in his work. Garcia balances memories of childhood playfulness on the same platform as controversial social issues and addresses them both wholeheartedly in a technicolor spectrum. “That Was Then, This Is Now” speaks of the artist’s current transition back to the Bay Area art scene from the East Coast. Internationally exhibited and collected for the last decade, Garcia has led the neo-abstraction movement with his devotion to his purpose through hard years of being handicapped by a violent attack in Los Angeles. While recovering he managed to show in Rome, Miami during Art Basel and NYC.

About Carly Ivan Garcia

Carly Ivan Garcia uses bold color palettes to express a dreamlike urban language. His playful compositions and energetic gestures attempt to converse with the paradoxes of his place within society and self. Garcia has been represented in New York City by Tinca Art Inc., Art Now NY and AHA Art Gallery, and in San Francisco by Rocha Art. His work has shown internationally in both gallery exhibitions and art fair presentations, and has been acquired into both national and international Private Collections. In 2010, ten works were selected for the motion picture film, Touching Home, starring Ed Harris, where they were featured prominently as the paintings of the film’s protagonist. In addition to his own work, Garcia has curated several large-scale art exhibitions in California featuring emerging and established American artists. Carly Ivan Garcia currently works and resides in Marin County, California.
