1st Artist:
Gauntlet Gallery is proud to present Live Fast, Die Faster, an all-new solo exhibition by Mike Egan (curated by Sven Davis) in the Gauntlet Gallery 1 space. Mike Egan is a Pittsburgh based artist whose consistent subject matter celebrates both life and death and the many narratives that fall somewhere between. Using confident strokes of heavily layered acrylic paint, shellac, wood and nails, Egan composes rich narrative within his work to tell stories of hope and despair, the living and the dying, and the ones left behind. Often using anecdotal text and a heavy dose of symbolism within his cryptic paintings, Egan presents a highly personal insight to love and loss in a unique, warm and colorful folk art style. The exhibition will feature 42 new paintings and a series of painted miniature coffins as well as a mural installation by the artist.

2nd Artist:
Gauntlet Gallery is also proud to present A Long Time Ago, an all-new solo exhibition by Hollis Brown Thornton in the Gauntlet Gallery 2 space. Pixilation and computer manipulation in Thornton’s work represent the merging of the physical and digital reality. A Long Time Ago is a recent collection of pixelated images from Star Wars movies. Fundamental archetypes that have existed throughout the history of stories and mythologies are represented by our modern versions in these characters. The transformation to the pixels, somewhat reminiscent of 8-bit video games, in a way takes them back to their era of origin, while also presenting them in a more basic, universal form.
