Luna Rienne Gallery is pleased to present Old Souls, two simultaneous solo exhibitions featuring San Francisco artist Monty Guy and Santa Cruz artist Telopa.
Opening Reception Saturday, September 10, 6-9PM
Showing through October 17, 2016
Old Souls will include new paintings by Monty Guy from his ongoing signature series of tattooed children, which tell the stories of iconic artists through a portrayal of them in their youth and the ink on their bodies. Also included in this exhibition are black-and-white paintings of other age-old characters and notions that have captured the artist’s interest.
Old Souls are portrayed in the rich colors and knowing glances of Telopa’s female subjects, who exist in timeless, otherworldly scenes. Gilded frames and elaborate laser-etched patterns provide an added dimensionality to the artist’s surrealistic works.
Monty Guy is a San Francisco-based painter and illustrator whose earliest memories are drawing in the entryway of his parents’ home in Southern California. A true artist, he is passionate and constantly compelled to create, seeing beauty and inspiration in everything around him. His acute attention to detail conveys his dedication to creation and craftsmanship.
Telopa received a scholarship in painting at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. The son and father of artists, his elegant mannerist style of painting women brings a classic beauty to his simultaneously surreal subject matter. Born in the San Francisco Bay Area, Telopa lived in New Mexico for a decade before returning to Santa Cruz in 2010.
