“Oakland Streets, Paint on Film” at Pacific Coast Brewery in Oakland through June. It features 10 non-digitized 11×14 photos on metallic paper. The subject is Oakland street art and graffiti with an urban context.
Matt Rodgers has combined two obsessions: old film cameras and street art. This year he has taken hundreds of photos of street art throughout the Bay Area. Using film, it was important for him to stay traditional to uphold the format and retain its unique qualities. He choose not to scan the negatives and print through an ink-jet printer. This meant he had to use old color enlargers in a darkroom and spent the last month in a darkroom producing the work for this show. The result is ten large 11×14 real photos on metallic paper. The spray paint truly pops.
