My Kind of Town” by Chicago-based stencil artist David Soukup curated by gallery Director, Jennifer A. Darland. The opening reception will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, March 10 and will be on view through April 22, 2017. The artist will be in attendance during opening reception.
From the Artist: “My Kind of Town” takes inspiration from the famous Frank Sinatra song, which offers praises [to] the city, and continues exploration into a deep-seated love affair with the City of Chicago. The work is an incredibly personal recollection of my daily life in the city, and the ever-changing urban landscape as Chicago continues to re-invent itself, while simultaneously stripping down the character, charm, and industrial facades of an early 20th century to make way for a more modern, although a less-inspired reincarnation. This body of work has transpired over three years time, with a mindful attention to detail and continued exploration of the stencil medium.
