New Amsterdam Vodka is hosting “It’s Your Town” party on Saturday, July 16 atMirus Gallery on 540 Howard St around 1st St. They teamed up with local street artist Chad Hasegawa to celebrate the vibrant culture and people of San Francisco. He will be at the event debuting seven pieces of original art, including a larger-than-life mural in SoMa on 7th and Market.
New Amsterdam will be serving up cocktails.
The event is free and open to the public (ages 21+). There will be a 10 ft. digital art wall where attendees can try their hand at street art as well.
About the artist:
Chad Hasegawa has been part of the art scene in San Francisco since 2000. He was born and raised in Hawaii where he started doing graffiti. He earned a BFA in advertising at the Academy of Art and is a self taught artist. He first made his appearance on the streets with a standing bear that starred you in the eye with block patches of brown and other colors. One of those bears was on Clarion Alley for several years. They have made their way into his artworks and evolved over time into portraits and abstract paintings.
His artworks have been in shows at local galleries and in other major US cities. He was the artist in residence at Recology and more recently at the De Young Museum. He is participating in a show next month at Athen B Gallery in Oakland.
