The solo works of Nina Wright / Mobbpink / Pink Mobb
Inspired by street art, wheat pastes, and murals, NINA’s female figures compliment and demoralize California iconography: shoddy, neon palm trees, rusty water towers crowned by barbed wire, scenery from the window of a Bart train or a walk down an East Oakland street.
NINA’s “Girl Heads” allow the viewer to take a glimpse inside the artist’s mind, experience the environment that inspires her lifestyle and work. Viewers see “Bartscapes” through the artist’s eyes, the youthfulness and extreme nature of the Bay Area, often expressed humorously and surrealistically. Wright displays this eccentric world on a canvas of religious scale, with handmade canvases, silkscreen, woodblock prints, and ink-and-pen drawings.
NINA combines these elements to take viewers on an odd journey through the Bay Area, capturing a mood that is unique to the artist and captivating to the viewer, who feels fortunate to be invited along for the ride.
