White Walls is pleased to present Arch Angels, a solo exhibition from Melbourne-based artist Meggs featuring new paintings and mixed media artworks. The opening reception will be Saturday, August 17, from 7-11pm, and the exhibition is free and open to the public for viewing through September 7, 2013.
With Arch Angels, Meggs continues to explore archetypal forms whether they be found in classical mythology or contemporary pop culture. In style, as well as theme, this new body of work succeeds in merging dualities into an impressive harmony. The influence of renaissance compositions is evident alongside the bold colors and dynamic energy of street art and areas of canvas obscured with paint splashes or layers of soft washes are brought into balance by realistically rendered details. The artists’ expressive brushwork yields a powerful touch, perfectly fitting for figures in violent and passionate throes.
